Meet Angela

Angela Scott Abdur-Rasheed has devoted her multi-decade career to helping others. The Alabama native works in nonprofit leadership specifically helping level the playing field and bring about equity in education, entrepreneurship, and advancement for BIPOC in Birmingham, AL. She's also the founder of The Amplify Agency, LLC helping provide training and facilitation to individuals and organizations in need of a little help to amplify their organizational operations, professional development, PR and media presence and personal brand.

Angela has worked in the field of Economic Empowerment and for ten years, lead the America’s Service Commission award-winning Building Communities, Bettering Lives AmeriCorps program igniting national service on a local level for more than 430 AmeriCorps members who served with 56 Birmingham-based nonprofits or programs. Angela also championed Economic Empowerment and garnered an overflow of supportive grants and resources to impact lives from a two-gen approach rooted in community collaboration. Angela is a former TV broadcaster and a marketing, fund development and public relationships pro, who also spent seven years in full-time ministry helping develop need-meeting projects within the congregation and community. 

 

With a Telecommunications and Film degree from The University of Alabama and a certification in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from The University of South Florida, Angela is regularly sought to train on topics like recruitment and retention, program management, social justice, media relations, women’s empowerment, etiquette, and workforce development. Angela has served with, trained for, or trained under more than 30 local and national organizations including Oasis Board of Directors, James Rushton Early Learning Center Board of Directors, American Express Leadership Academy, Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers, Alabama Power Ignite Conference, Woodlawn High School Academy Board, AmeriCorps, Kaiser Family Foundation, National Association of Workforce Development Professionals, YWCA Junior Board, Poynter Institute of Journalism, Heart Gallery of Alabama Board, and Birmingham Society of Human Resources Management.

In her spare time, Angela enjoys time with her husband Aquil and their family, binging HGTV, King of Queens and A Different World, admiring Dolly Parton and writing. She has used her love for words as the author of "Still Standing", “Still a Lady”, “Life Gets Better”, "Oooohhh Girl! You're Something Special", "Zander Finds a Friend" and “The Adventures of Abigail Jones: The Family Reunion”. She has also provided social media content for national companies like Coca-Cola and Coors Light, and was the first publicist for Comedian and National Morning Show Host Rickey Smiley.
